Memory Controls and Explorer

Memory controls are part of the Chat page, not a separate navigation page.
In the compact Chat panel, the control reads Memory On or Memory Off.
Open its menu to see the current scope and change it for the active chat.

Memory is separate from the visible chat transcript. A transcript is the
message history for one conversation; memory is selected context that Geist
can save and recall in later requests.

Choose a memory scope

The standard choices are:

  • Memory Disabled β€” Do not save or recall memory. This chat does not add or
retrieve memory while the setting is off.
  • Memory Enabled β€” Use memory across chats. Saved profile memory can help
    other global-memory chats.
  • Memory Enabled (this chat only) β€” Keep memory within this chat. Context
    remains private to this conversation.

New chats start with Memory Enabled and global scope unless they are
created while a private folder is selected. Turning memory off does not delete
facts that were already saved; it changes saving and recall for the chat.

When folders exist, the menu adds a Folder memory section. Selecting a
folder uses private folder scope, described as Share memory with chats in
<folder>.
Other chats in that folder can use the shared folder memory, but
global and unrelated private chats cannot.

Select Manage folders… to expand the Chat library. Creating, moving, and
deleting folders is covered in
Chat Library and Private Folders.

Open the memory explorer

Expand Profile memory β€” Review and search saved context while viewing
All chats. This view can:

  • search with Search global memory;
  • list saved profile facts;
  • edit a fact with Edit saved memory, then Save memory; and
  • remove a fact with Forget saved memory.

If no global facts exist, it says No global facts saved yet. Search results
show their record type and saved content. Search returns a small set of the
closest matches rather than the entire memory store.

Forget saved memory removes the fact immediately; there is no confirmation
dialog. Read the fact carefully before selecting it.

When a private folder is selected, the explorer changes to Folder memory β€”
Review and search saved context
and the placeholder becomes Search this
folder
. The current folder view supports search, but it does not display the
editable profile-fact list. Return to All chats to edit global profile
facts. There is no separate explorer list for private-chat-only memory.

Errors such as Could not load profile memory, Memory search failed,
Could not update this memory, or Could not forget this memory appear
inside the explorer.

Memory is not Memory Sync

These controls decide which local chats can save or recall context. They do not
turn cross-device synchronization on or off. Pitchblend's separate
Memory Sync feature transfers
eligible profile and folder memories directly between trusted devices; it does
not sync chat transcripts or private-thread memory.
