Your First Conversation

Pitchblend does not run a setup wizard or automatically download a model. Follow these steps once the workspace has opened.

1. Wait for the workspace

Start pitchblend AI. You may briefly see Loading... while the wrapper prepares the local workspace, waits for Geist, and verifies the required account and sync controls.

When Chat appears, the workspace is ready. If you instead see Geist couldn’t start, Required UI couldn’t load, or Workspace is stopped, use Startup and Workspace Help.

2. Download a local model

  1. Open Models in the Geist navigation.
  2. Find the curated model under Local Models.
  3. Select Download and leave Pitchblend open until the download completes.

Model weights are separate from the application and can be several gigabytes. They remain in your user data across normal application upgrades.

On macOS, the curated model may ask for a Hugging Face token because its provider gates the download. On Windows and Linux, the curated GGUF model does not use that macOS token flow.

3. Make the model active

In Models, choose Use for the downloaded model. Confirm that it is marked Active before returning to Chat. Downloading a model alone does not select it.

4. Send a simple prompt

Open Chat, enter a prompt in the composer, and send it. A useful first test is:

Explain in three short bullets what a local AI model is.

The first response after selecting a model can take longer because the inference runtime loads the model into memory. A later response is usually faster while the model remains loaded.

Use Stop if you want to end a response that is still generating. Stopping does not delete the conversation.

5. Isolate common problems

  • No model is selected: Return to Models and choose Use.
  • The download fails: Check free disk space and network access, then retry from Models.
  • The model loads slowly: Wait for the first load to finish before sending another message.
  • The answer is poor or incomplete: Try a narrower prompt and include the exact format or constraints you want.
  • An online provider reports an error: Switch back to a downloaded local model to determine whether the problem is the provider configuration.
