Installation and System Requirements
Choose the package that matches both your operating system and processor architecture.
Use the Pitchblend download page for the current stable release,
older stable packages when available, and the published checksum file.
| Platform | Architecture | Published package |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | x64 | NSIS installer (.exe) |
| macOS | Apple silicon / ARM64 | Disk image (.dmg) and archive (.zip) |
| Linux | x64 | AppImage and Debian package (.deb) |
Pitchblend does not currently publish a Windows ARM64 build, a macOS Intel build, a Linux ARM64 build, an RPM, or an Arch package.
Before you install
The installed application contains the runtime it needs. Normal users do not need Node.js, Python, uv, Docker, WSL, or a separate Geist checkout. Those are source-development requirements only.
Model weights are not included in the application package and are never
downloaded silently on first launch. Allow additional disk space for any model
you choose. For example, the current curated Windows/Linux GGUF download is
about 2.5 GB; other models can be larger.
The download page publishes these broad workspace tiers:
| Tier | Memory | Free disk space | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 4 GB RAM | 2 GB before model downloads | 64-bit supported operating system |
| Recommended | 8 GB RAM | 4 GB before model downloads | 64-bit supported operating system |
| Ideal | 16 GB RAM | 8 GB before model downloads | Compatible hardware acceleration |
These are starting points, not a promise that every model fits or performs
well. Model size, prompt length, other applications, drivers, and CPU/GPU
support all affect usable performance.
Verify the unsigned download
Current Windows and macOS release binaries are intentionally unsigned. Your operating system may therefore show an unknown-publisher or unidentified-developer warning. A warning alone does not prove a file is safe.
- Download the package and its published SHA-256 checksum from the official release.
- Calculate the SHA-256 digest of the downloaded file with your operating system's checksum tool.
- Continue only when the two values match exactly.
- Use the operating system's one-time approval flow for that verified file if it is blocked.
Do not turn off system-wide application security or weaken antivirus protections to install Pitchblend.
Windows x64
- Download the Windows x64 installer ending in
.exe. - Verify its checksum before opening it.
- Run the per-user installer and acknowledge the unsigned-publisher warning only for the verified file.
- Start pitchblend AI from the Start menu.
Installing a later version over the existing per-user installation is the normal upgrade path. Your user data and separately downloaded models are outside the application package and are intended to survive an upgrade.
macOS on Apple silicon
- Download either the ARM64
.dmgor.ziprelease artifact. - Verify its checksum.
- Move pitchblend AI to Applications if you used the disk image, or extract the archive and move the application there.
- Use macOS's one-time Open approval for the verified unsigned application if prompted.
The curated macOS model is gated by its model provider. Its download may require a Hugging Face access token after you accept the provider's terms. The token is for the model download, not for installing Pitchblend itself.
Linux x64
Choose one supported package:
- Make the AppImage executable and run it from your preferred location.
- Install the
.debwith your distribution's normal Debian-package tool.
Pitchblend ships a pinned x64 inference runtime for these packages. GPU acceleration depends on compatible local drivers; the runtime can fall back to CPU when Vulkan is unavailable.
Updates
Pitchblend has no built-in updater or Check for Updates control. Download and install a newer verified release manually. Back up your data before an important upgrade; see Local Data and Backup.
When installation is complete, continue with First Launch.
