Interface Tour

Pitchblend wraps the Geist local workspace and adds protected account and Memory Sync controls. These areas share one window, but they have different responsibilities.

Left navigation

Section What you do there
Chat — Conversations Ask questions, reopen conversations, organize private folders, select memory scope, and use file references or the separate online voice path
Workflows — Automations Build and run limited visual data transformations
Files — Local context Upload, browse, preview, download, and remove local documents; the visible Search control currently fails
Models — Providers Download or import local models and inspect online-provider choices
Settings — Defaults Choose model mode and generation values, store currently unwired file/RAG and appearance preferences, and view About details

Use the full Desktop UI Guide when you want every button and status explained.

Top bar

The top bar labels the current page and Runtime. Its chips can show:

  • Runtime loading while saved settings are still loading;
  • Settings unavailable when that request failed;
  • local or online for the chosen model mode;
  • the online provider when applicable; and
  • the selected model, or No model selected.

These chips summarize settings, not live health, installation, or
acceleration. A chip can name a catalog model that is not installed. Use the
Active row on Models > Local Models to confirm a concrete artifact and
Settings > About for the runtime that actually started.

Chat requests tools, but the active model and backend decide whether native
tool calling is available. The curated Qwen model on Windows and Linux can use
tools; the current curated macOS MLX model does not advertise that capability.
A capable local or online model can use web search, document search, or online
image generation. Voice independently uses an online text agent even while the
top bar says local.

Bottom status area

Geist displays Ready — Local workspace. This is a workspace label, not a detailed live health test. Pitchblend also injects:

  • the account control, used for browser sign-in, license summary, and sign-out; and
  • Memory Sync, used to enroll trusted devices and transfer supported memories directly between them.

If the normal Geist sidebar or status area is not ready, Pitchblend can place these controls at the lower corners so they remain accessible.

Pitchblend and Geist

Geist owns chat, files, models, memory, workflows, and normal settings. The Pitchblend wrapper starts and supervises Geist, preserves the desktop security boundary, and owns account credentials, licenses, and peer-to-peer sync keys. The embedded page receives safe summaries rather than raw tokens or license material.

Developer-only Admin Interface and Developer settings do not appear in an installed customer build. They are covered separately in Developer mode.
