Memory Sync

The Memory Sync control normally appears in the status bar at the bottom of
the Geist workspace. If that status bar is not available, Pitchblend places the
control in the lower-right corner.

Memory Sync can be configured only in a packaged Pitchblend app using the
normal Pitchblend-managed Geist runtime. Source builds and developer attach
mode show the control for inspection, but do not allow sync changes.

Understand the status

The launcher shows Memory Sync followed by one of these states:

  • Loading — Pitchblend is reading the current sync state.
  • Off — memory sync is not enabled.
  • Setup needed — sync is enabled, but this device is not enrolled yet.
  • Active — this device is enrolled and ready.
  • Connecting — Pitchblend is opening a direct connection to a trusted
    device.
  • Syncing — changes are moving between devices.
  • Needs attention — an error or compatibility problem needs action.
  • Suspended — the current license no longer has a seat for this device.
  • Removed — this device was revoked from its sync group.

Select the launcher to open Peer-to-peer Memory Sync. Its subtitle is
Memory travels directly between your trusted devices.

Before you begin

You need:

  • a packaged Pitchblend app in normal managed mode;
  • a signed-in Pitchblend account;
  • operating-system protected credential storage; and
  • a license that is eligible for at least two sync devices.

Account, license, enrollment, and connection coordination require the
Pitchblend service. Pitchblend Cloud does not receive or relay your memory
contents.

Enable memory sync

  1. Open Memory Sync.
  2. Turn on Sync Geist memories.
  3. Under Active license, choose an eligible license.
  4. Enroll this device as the first device or join an existing sync group.

The setting description defines the current v1.0 data boundary:
Profile and folder memories only; no chats, private thread memory, or model
files.

The license list shows each license as
<display name> · <enrolled devices>/<device limit> devices. A license
that is not eligible cannot be newly selected.

Enroll the first device

If this is the first device using the selected license:

  1. Select Bootstrap first device.
  2. Wait while the button shows Bootstrapping….
  3. When enrollment finishes, the launcher changes to Active.

Only use this action for the first device. Additional devices must use a
pairing code so an existing trusted device can approve them.

Add another device

On an already enrolled device:

  1. Open Memory Sync.
  2. Under Device enrollment, select Create pairing code.
  3. Keep this panel open. The one-time code and its expiration time appear.

On the new device:

  1. Sign in to the same Pitchblend account.
  2. Enable Sync Geist memories and choose the same license.
  3. Enter the code in Pairing code.
  4. Select Join existing devices.
  5. Compare the safety code shown on both devices.

Back on the existing device, find Enrollment approvals:

  1. Confirm the device name and safety code with the person at the new device.
  2. Select Codes match only when every digit matches.
  3. Select Approve, or select Reject if anything is unexpected.

The new device may show Waiting for an existing device to verify and approve
this code.
until the approval arrives. Pairing codes are short-lived and
one-time. Never approve a device you do not recognize, even if someone has a
valid pairing code.

Keep syncing after the window closes

Turn on Keep syncing in the background to start Pitchblend at login and
continue sync after the customer window closes.

This option is disabled until Sync Geist memories is on. Turning memory
sync off also turns background sync off. Background mode has no separate tray
window in v1.0; reopen Pitchblend normally to see its status.

Manage devices

The Devices card shows:

  • the device label and this device marker for the local device;
  • online, offline, unknown, Suspended, or Revoked state;
  • Last sync; and
  • Last seen.

Dates show Never when no event has been recorded and Unknown if a date
cannot be read.

To remove another device, select Revoke, then Confirm revoke. You cannot
revoke the current device from its own row. Revocation prevents that device
from participating in the group; it does not erase the device's local
memories.

Change licenses safely

Selecting a different license on an enrolled device requires the destructive
Confirm license switch action. Pitchblend explains that it will remove the
device from the old sync group and destroy the old sync keys, metadata, and
journal.

Local Geist memories stay on the machine. After the switch, enroll the device
in the new license's sync group. Select Cancel if you did not intend to
leave the old group.

Read sync activity

The Sync activity card reports:

  • retained changes and encrypted journal size;
  • devices awaiting acknowledgement; and
  • Last successful sync.

If two devices changed the same memory concurrently, Pitchblend keeps both as
separate memories and reports that no content was discarded. Review the two
copies in Geist and keep the one you want.
